Alyssa Stewart, DPT

Physical Therapist, Pilates Instructor, Owner

Alyssa is the owner and lead physical therapist at Empower PT. She saw the need for something more than traditional physical therapy, something more than just treating the injury. With her lifelong passion for physical activity and human anatomy, and her ever-present desire to help others, Empower PT was established in 2015. Her goal for Empower is to educate, motivate, and empower clients to improve their quality of life through healthy movement.

After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Exercise Physiology, Alyssa obtained a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami and became comprehensively certified in Pilates for rehabilitation in 2009. She spent six years working in acute care, rehabilitation, and outpatient settings before opening her own practice. Alyssa holds advanced certifications in manual therapy, functional movement, and correct exercise, and is continually seeking innovative methods to enhance clients’ physical wellness.

As an adjunct professor at the University of Tampa for five years, Alyssa taught Applied Kinesiology and other health science courses. She continues to enjoy guest lecturing each semester and mentoring college students in the healthcare field. Her love for pilates, teaching, and finding new ways to challenge her clients inspired the creation of Empower PT’s Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program that she teaches yearly.

Alyssa’s dedication to professional development and passion for Pilates and healthy movement has earned Empower PT recognition as the Best in South Tampa for four years. She ensures Empower PT provides the highest level of individualized care through Physical Therapy, Private Pilates, and Personal Training.

When Alyssa is not at Empower, she enjoys spending time with her family at their farm, playing with her dog Kiwi, and exploring new places.
